- Stand united in opposing its abrogation: Pir Panjal lawyers to people
- NPP demands revocation, stage protest
Divided versions regarding the proposed revocation of Article 35 (A) are emerging from Jammu region with the lawyers from the Pir Panjal region vowing to oppose the move tooth and nail while the National Panthers Party demanded its immediate revocation.
Appealing people of Jammu and Kashmir to get united and stop Government of India from scrapping Article 35 A that bars a non-state subject from purchasing land and acquire job in Jammu and Kashmir, lawyers from Pir Panjal region of Jammu Tuesday said that the proposed abrogation will not only hit Kashmir but also will affect Jammu and Ladakh.
“Some extremists have challenged this article in the court of Law. It will be disastrous for us all if this article is scrapped. Even business community of Jammu will suffer. We should fight against the proposed scrapping of this article,” president Bar Association Surankote Advocate Yasir Janjua told reporters.
He said it is a do or die situation for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “We appeal people of Surankote to get united and fight against this conspiracy,” he said.
They said that move is aimed at to change the demographic character of the State.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) on Tuesday staged a protest here demanding the immediate revocation of the Article.
The party wants its revocation and complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India, JKNPP chairman Harsh Dev Singh told reporters during the protest at the Exhibition grounds here.
“Article 35A is unconstitutional and illegal. It has been extended to the state by the virtue of presidential order and has not been passed by the Parliament, which is a necessary formality,” he said.
Over a dozen activists of the party led by Singh staged a demonstration of the Article that accords special powers to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly for framing laws.
The protesters also set ablaze an effigy of the BJP, accusing it of “surrendering its stand, ideology and election promises made to the people of the state and country”.
National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah had yesterday cautioned of an uprising “far greater” than the 2008 Amarnath land row if Article 35A was repealed.
Separatists have called for a shutdown on August 12 on the issue.
